There are 27 gold medals up for grabs on day eight of the Olympics as Great Britain look to extend their record start to Paris 2024 on what could be a super Saturday.
It’s the final day of rowing and Great Britain ended a hugely successful regatta by claiming a superb gold in the men’s eight and taking a creditable bronze medal in the women’s eight.
The women’s 100m final is the pick of the late action where Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita hoping to challenge the might of the USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson and Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price.
Before then, Simone Biles is back in action and goes for her third gold of the Games in the vault final, while Max Whitlock bids for a historic third consecutive gold on pommel horse and Jake Jarman targets a medal on the floor. Fresh off his stunning victory in the mountain bike, Tom Pidcock also features in the men’s cycling road race.
And the swimming is set to produce another night of drama with Katie Ledecky looking to continue her dominance of the 800m free and Great Britain able to field a strong side in the mixed 4x100m medley relay – especially if Adam Peaty has sufficiently recovered from Covid to be selected.

Olympics 2024: Athletics
Good morning from the athletics, where the roof jas jsut been taken off the Stade de France as Anais Bourgoin pulls off a stunning final lap to win her repechage and qualify for the next round of the women’s 800m. This stadium is loud, and the track is quick.
Which is good news ahead of the weekend. Tonight we have the final of the women’s 100m but first up we have the first round of the men’s 100m, ahead of tomorrow night’s semi-final and final.
Starting from 10:55, we will have all of the big contenders for gold on display. Kishane Thompson, the fastest man this year, is in the first heat.
Noah Lyes, the world champion, lines up in heat three alongside Great Britian’s breakout sprint star and national champion Louie Hinchliffe. Zharnel Hughes is in the eighth and final heat.

Olympics 2024: Swimming
The first swimming events of the day will be getting started soon, with the women’s 50m freestyle heats the first event of the day.
Katie Ledecky will bid to extend her record as the most successful female US Olympian, looking for a ninth gold medal as she competes in the women’s 800m freestyle final at 8.28pm.
And Team GB will be hopeful of a medal in the mixed medley relay, especially if they can call upon a recovered Adam Peaty.

Team GB have got underway in the team dressage event – after gold in the team jumping event – and they are currently leading, with a score of 76.489.
Second place is the Netherlands, with 72.644.

Everything from joy and happiness to exhaustion and relief on the faces of the GB rowers, but they’ve added an Olympic title to their European and world championship wins. A dominant performance.
GB finish in 5:22.88, and that’s the 29th medal of the Games so far for Team GB.

And it is! It’s another gold for Team GB!
They hold off the Dutch to win by 1.08s, with the Netherlands in second and USA in bronze.
It’s gold for Sholto Carnegie, Rory Gibbs, Morgan Bolding, Jacob Dawson, Charlie Elwes, Tom Digby, James Rudkin, Tom Ford and Harry Brightmore (cox)! A brilliantly run race, with perfect timing.

It looks like it’a between GB, USA and the Netherlands for the medal, with the Brits carrying a lead of around one second.

Olympics 2024: Men’s road race underway
The men’s road race has now begun, with Tom Pidcock starting the hunt for a second gold medal. He’ll face stiff competition over the course of around 273km – that event is expected to finish around 5.15pm BST.
