Noah Lyles has gushed over girlfriend Junelle Bromfield after admitting he ‘falls in love with her more every time’ she disregards his brash persona on the track.
Lyles, who won gold in the men’s 100m at the Olympics this summer, was one of the biggest talking points of the Paris Games due to both his incredible speed and outspoken nature.
After winning the 100m sprint, the American track sensation boldly declared he would prevail in the 200m equivalent and make his rivals ‘depressed’ on the day – only to settle for bronze having competed in the race with Covid.
His loud personality means he is often in the headlines, either for the right or wrong reasons, but girlfriend Junelle pays little attention to this alter ego.
Weeks on from his gold-medal triumph, Lyles revealed how Bromfield – who also competed at the Olympics in the women’s 4x400m and 400m events for Jamaica – instead fell in love with the man off the track.

‘Something that she says that truly makes me fall in love with her every time is, “I don’t really look at his personality on the track.” That’s not the guy that she says she likes,’ he said in an interview with PEOPLE.
‘Every time she says that, I think I fall more in love with her because eventually I’m not going to be a track and field runner. And if she got caught up in that personality, I think I would be a little sad because it is just for the track.
‘That’s the energy that I give there but that’s not the energy that I give when I’m home, when we’re on dates, when we’re inspiring others.’
After first meeting in 2018, Noah and Junelle eventually made their romance official four years later, and the couple celebrated their second anniversary earlier this month.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing at the start, with both Lyles and Bromfield opening up on their nightmare first date.

In a resurfaced clip from the ‘Fast Lane Lifestyle’ podcast, they explained why things ‘didn’t click at all’ between them during their initial meeting.
‘We went on a [first] date and it was like, “Nah, let’s just be friends,”‘ Bromfield explained, noting she jetted into Miami from Jamaica to have dinner with her future boyfriend.
Lyles chimed in, ‘I pick her up in my car. I’m excited … I got my all-white Beamer [at the time]. I pick her up from the airport — dead silent.’
‘No words, no talk,’ he added.
Bromfield said she was a ‘little nervous’ during their first meeting.
‘I talk a lot, but I have to be comfortable before I start taking and it was just one day,’ she said, to which Lyles joked, ‘A little? I got like whispers.’
He went on, ‘I took her out to Red Lobster, introduced her to cheddar bay biscuits for the first time. I’m feeding her good.’
However, he explained that they ‘just didn’t click’ and agreed to remain pals.
After a couple of years went by, they reconnected on a night out during the Running Grand, and sparks flew. Now, they live together in Florida as double Olympic medalists, with Bromfield winning a 4x400m relay bronze at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
