Neeraj made it to the final a superb first throw of 89.34m, breaching the qualification standard of 84m comfortably. It was also the best throw of the qualification. The other contenders for medals are Arshad Nadeem, Anderson Peters, Jakub Vadlejch and Julian Weber.
In the other big match of the day, the Indian men’s hockey team will face Spain in the bronze medal. Despite the semifinal loss, Harmanpreet Singh and co. have been playing better hockey and key players are in good form.
After Vinesh Phogat lost her medal due to a failure to make weight and Antim’s exit, wrestling hopes now rest on Aman Sehrawat, Anshu Malik and Reetika Hooda.
Aman and Anshu Malik will begin their campaign today and both will push to qualify for the semifinals. Aman will face Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia in the men’s 57kg round of 16 bout and Anshu will take on Helen Maroulis of the USA in her women’s 57kg round of 16 match.
In golf, Diksha Dagar and Aditi Ashok will continue their campaign in round 2.
