NBC’s Olympics primetime schedule tonight has plenty of big moments to show from as the 2024 Paris Games slate featured Simone Biles and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team competing for the first time of these Games. Elsewhere, the USWNT faced Germany in group play, and the U.S. men’s basketball team opened group play against Serbia.

Suni Lee’s story told on NBC
Sunisa Lee’s resiliency through not one, but two rare kidney diseases is something that can inspire people across the world. Lee rebounded from the devastating news to compete in the Olympics this year, the second of her career.
NBC told Lee’s story right before Lee’s qualifying round on the uneven bars. Lee scored a 14.866 to lead the American team.

Simone Biles’ vault
Despite the injury rumors, Biles didn’t hesitate to attempt one of the toughest vaults in the world on her first attempt in the event. Even the announcers were blown away by her courage, and although she couldn’t quite stick the landing, everyone was aware that she would not be penalized too much for it.
UK’s Adam Peaty comes within two-hundredths of a three-peat
Coming into today, Great Britain’s Adam Peaty was going for his third straight Olympic gold in the 100-meter breaststroke. That would have made him just the second Olympian ever (Michael Phelps) to win gold in the same even three times.
Peaty competed hard, but wound up finishing two-hundredths of a second behind the winner Nicolo Martinenghi. 31-year-old American Nic Fink also earned his first Olympic medal, tying Peaty at 59.05 seconds.
Americans go 1-2 in women’s 100-meter butterfly
Léon Marchand dominates 400 IM
A disciple of Phelps, France’s Léon Marchand could be the next big star in Olympic swimming. Although he missed out on the world record, Marchand set a new Olympic record with a 4:02.95.

How to watch Olympics primetime today
In primetime, starting at 8 p.m. ET (2 a.m. the following day in Paris), NBC’s marquee broadcast will air live and focus on the biggest events of the day with “Primetime in Paris.” That block will have a storytelling lens with more in-depth coverage opportunities. Mike Tirico will be the host from Paris’ famed Trocadero, with the Eiffel Tower serving as the backdrop. The show will typically open with highlights from a Team USA gold medal and the last hour of the show will revolve around the event of the night.

Will Simone Biles be featured on tonight’s programming?
Yes. Although this is not a medal round, Simone Biles will be seen on tonight’s primetime programming. Biles seemed to tweak her leg during warmups prior to any events, but that didn’t stop Biles. Cecile Landi, one of Biles’ coaches told reporters that there was no concern regarding Biles’ ability to compete in Paris. Landi added that Biles was dealing with “a little pain in her calf. She felt it a little bit on floor.”
Biles competed in the qualifying rounds for the floor routine, vault, uneven bars, and balance beam today. She qualified for the finals in floor, vault, and balance beam. She is currently first reserve for uneven bars.

The U.S. men’s basketball team had their first game of Olympic group stage play today against Serbia. The United States won 110-84, backed by LeBron James’ and Kevin Durant’s 44 combined points.
The U.S.’s next game is scheduled for July 31 against South Sudan – the same team that took America to overtime during the showcase.
The U.S. women play tomorrow against Japan in their first game of the Olympics.

Coco Gauff wins first Olympic match
American Coco Gauff, the No. 2 ranked women’s tennis player in the world, won her first match of the 2024 Olympics against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in consecutive sets (6-3, 6-0). Gauff, 20, became the youngest American to win a singles match at the Olympics since Venus Williams in 2000.
