Euro 2024 is in the books, but another massive global event will get underway in western Europe in less than days. The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics begin on Wednesday, July 24, with a number of soccer and rugby sevens matches kicking off this year’s Games.

Two days later, the highly anticipated Opening Ceremony will take place on the Seine River. This year’s Olympics slate, which will conclude on Sunday, August 11, features 32 sports, including four non-traditional ones: skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and breaking (break dancing).

Below is everything fans need to know about legally betting on the 2024 Olympic Games, in FAQ format.

How Can I Bet on the Olympics?

The process for betting on the Olympics is similar to betting on other sports. Just head to your preferred legal sportsbook, whether that’s DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, ESPN BET, Fanatics, bet365, BetRivers or a different legal sportsbook. Those eight are all available in at least 10 states, but there are dozens more that operate in a select few states.

Navigate to the Olympics page at your sportsbook of choice, and check out the sports and disciplines that are available. The exact number will depend on what state you’re located in. That’s because some, like Massachusetts, prohibit betting on any sport that is determined by judges (for example, gymnastics, BMX, wrestling, breaking, judo, diving, surfing and equestrian).

Which Olympic Sports Can Be Bet On?

Most sports taking place at the Olympics are available to bettors looking to make a wager. However, different sportsbooks offer different options, and the sports that are available vary state to state.

Most Popular Paris 2024 Olympic Sports to Bet

The sports that typically draw the most viewership are basketball, athletics (track and field, especially the short-distance events), gymnastics, swimming and volleyball.

Those sports also figure to be the most popular among bettors, with plenty of eyes on the hardwood, where LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant lead a loaded Team USA.

Paris 2024 Olympic Hoops Field Loaded

While Team USA is the heavy favorite, it will face serious competition in a field full of NBA talent. The likes of Canada (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray), France (Victor Wembanyama, Rudy Gobert) and Serbia (Nikola Jokic, Bogdan Bogdanovic) all boast legit stars, and Giannis Antetokounmpo alone makes Greece another interesting threat.

Betting on Paris 2024 Olympic Medal Count

Most of the intrigue surrounds the stars in specific disciplines.

At this year’s Games, some of the top names include sprinters Noah Lyles (USA), Kishane Thompson (Jamaica), Sha’Carri Richardson (USA) and Shericka Jackson (Jamaica); swimmers Sarah Sjostrom (Sweden), Katie Ledecky (USA) and Regan Smith (USA); and gymnasts Simone Biles (USA) and Suni Lee (USA).

But it’s also possible to bet on which country will finish first in the medal count. The Americans are massive favorites in the “most medals” market at DraftKings at -2500, followed by China (+900), Japan (+5000) and Great Britain (+5000).

Other available markets include “most Gold medals.” DraftKings lists USA at -750, ahead of China (+350) and France (+6500).

Additionally, there are over/under markets at most sportsbooks for the number of total gold medals a country will win. The odds below are from DK:

  • USA Total Gold Medals: Over 41.5 (-115); Under 41.5 (-115)
  • China Total Gold Medals: Over 33.5 (-135); Under 33.5 (+105)
  • Great Britain Total Gold Medals: Over 14.5 (-200); Under 14.5 (+150)
