The 2024 Olympics took place recently in Paris, France, and former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo has revealed a run-in he had with undefeated UFC middleweight, Khamzat Chimaev.
Outside of the Octagon, Khamzat Chimaev is quite a divisive figure due to his antics but inside the Octagon, he is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC.
‘Borz’ recently had his fight against former middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker rebooked to take place at UFC 308 in October and it will be a five-round co-main event.
Henry Cejudo details run-in with Khamzat Chimaev at the Olympics
Before the 30-year-old gets into the biggest camp of his career thus far, he has been enjoying some time at the recent Olympics in Paris.
Former UFC double champion, Henry Cejudo, was also at the Olympics watching the wrestling take place. While he was there, he had a run-in with Chimaev and claimed that the Chechen tried to fight him.
“I have a crazy-ass story for you man,” Cejudo told Kamaru Usman during their recent Pound 4 Pound Podcast episode. “Guess who was at the Olympics and was trying to fight the Triple C?”
The former welterweight champion began trying to guess who it was after Cejudo told him he’d fought him before.
After guessing Colby Covington, Leon Edwards, and Tyron Woodley, Cejudo revealed that it was Chimaev who he was talking about and proceeded to tell the story as to why the 30-year-old was trying to fight him.
“Oh f****** I don’t know man (why he was trying to fight me). I think these dudes take s*** so personally, I don’t know man, I think me cheering for you, me cheering for (Paulo Costa), me kind of telling the truth a little bit, I believe as an analyst you have to tell the truth and that’s fine (that’s what I do).
“Yeah, I am comical and whatnot but typically I do say certain things because I mean it, so that’s why I think (he wanted to fight me). He was at the ticket line, I was outside trying to get my damn ticket because everything was sold out, I don’t think he could get in either.
“And then he sees me and says ‘Henry Cejudo you’re a rat piece of s***’ and I had a feeling this dude had a (problem) because he’s blocked me on all the social media stuff. I said ‘Why am I a piece of s***’ and he said I’m just a piece of s***,” Cejudo explained.
Cejudo believes the incident could hurt Chimaev’s career
With Chimaev often getting involved in things outside of the cage, Cejudo believes moments like this could hinder his career going forward.
UFC CEO, Dana White, recently admitted following Chimaev’s withdrawal from his recently scheduled fight against Whittaker, that he is tough to deal with because of his ongoing health issues, but also possibly because of his out-of-cage life.
“Something like this could really hurt Khamzat in the sense of him being truly emotional. How many fights has he pulled out of, how many fans and trolls does he think are trolling him and how upset could you get, and the last thing you want to do is fight emotionally,” Cejudo claimed.
Despite that, with a win over ‘The Reaper’ in October, Chimaev could put himself in line for a title shot next, but he will have to wait for Sean Strickland to once again fight for undisputed gold.
