After performing at the 2024 Summer Olympics, Dr. Dre may be readying himself for the 2028 games which will be in his hometown of Los Angeles—this time as a competitor in the field of archery.
Snoop Dogg was made a special correspondent to the Olympics and brought his mega-producer friend Dr. Dre along for a performance that went viral during the closing ceremonies of the games. During that time, The Chronic rapper/producer expressed an interest in archery and potentially competing.
“I’m starting to try out for the Olympics in 2028,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’m deadass serious….I started playing around with archery in junior high. I stopped for a while, and my son bought me a setup; I don’t know if it was for my birthday or Father’s Day or something like that, so I have it set up in my backyard.”
Dr. Dre is currently training at 90 feet. The qualifying distance for archery is 70 feet. “I feel like I can do anything,” the rapper said.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Justin Huish has offered to train Dr. Dre. Huish is also from Los Angeles. “Anyone can do it at any age,” he told TMZ of Dr. Dre who is 59. “You can be a phenom and you don’t really know. I’ll come to your house. I will train you. I will dedicate my time to train with you. If you’re really serious about this, hit me up. We’ll make it happen!”
In terms of this year’s games, Dr. Dre did not mince words on his feelings about the break-dancing category. News already broke that the category will not be returning. The producer was unhappy with the presentation. “It’s so many great break-dancers that I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that,” Dr. Dre said.
Missionary, the collaborative album between Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre is still being worked on. Of the production, he told ET, “This one is going to show a different level of maturity with his lyrics and with my music.”
