Even before she scored a win against Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Argentinian field hockey player Maria Campoy had an unforgettable moment.

On Wednesday, July 24, her boyfriend Pablo Simonet, a player for Argentina’s men’s handball team, had a big question to ask her.

As Team Argentina’s handball and field hockey teams took a group photo together in their white-and-blue uniforms with the River Seine in the background, Simonet, 32, broke away from the group to get down on one knee and ask Campoy, 34, to marry him.

In a video shared on the handball player’s Instagram page, Campoy — who is competing this week on Argentina’s women’s field hockey team — can be seen tearing up as she and her fiancé embrace, with both Argentinian teams cheering and jumping around behind them in the background.

“The woman in my life gave me a ‘yes’ 🤩 ❤️,” Simonet wrote in Spanish in the caption of his post on Wednesday. “In a dream place, where everything came from and where we fought so much to be.”

‘Thank you friends, and few accomplices, for making this special and for being to allow us to have this forever. Paris is always a good idea 💍❤️ 👰 ♀️🤵🏻 ♂️,” he finished the post, before tagging his fiancée.

Many fans, fellow athletes and others chimed in underneath Simonet’s post, sending the newly engaged pair congratulations following the proposal.

“Forever a fannn of this cute couple 🫶🫶🫶,” Campoy’s former field hockey teammate Rochy Sanchez wrote in Spanish. “I love you ❤️. I hope you are very happy, as much as you are now ❤️.”

Simonet’s handball teammate Lucas Moscariello also sent the pair well-wishes, writing: “The looooove!! Congratulations boys 🫶🇦🇷.”

“Olympic rings and engagement rings!🙌💍,” Peacock’s official account wrote in the comment section.

According to the official Olympics site, Simonet and Campoy have been together since 2015, and have even been to the Olympics together, when they both competed in Rio in 2016.

Although Argentina’s handball team had a difficult game against Norway on Saturday, July 27, and lost 36-31, the Las Leonas women’s field hockey team took home a strong win against the U.S. the same day, defeating Team USA 4-1.

According to the Olympics site, the field hockey team is set to face South Africa on Monday, July 29, and is fighting for the gold medal, after previously taking home silver at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The Olympics also reported that Campoy may be bidding farewell to field hockey at the end of the 2024 Games, as she did not play in the 2020 Olympics and decided to come back for one final competition this year.

“Obviously, the doors were open, but I was living my life [in Spain],” Campoy told the outlet. “But after the call, I didn’t hesitate. I talked it over with Pablo and I told him, ‘I want to end my career in the best way possible.’ “
